Pakistan take Asian Games silver after 19-run final defeat

Hasan Nawaz’s 96 kept Pakistan in the chase, but India won the men’s cricket final on 3 October.

Result in brief

India made 211 for six in 20 overs; Pakistan replied with 192 for six. The 19-run margin left Pakistan with the silver medal at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.

A chase led by Hasan Nawaz

Hasan scored 96 from 51 deliveries. His partnership with Saim Ayub helped rebuild the innings after early wickets, but Pakistan could not complete the chase.

The route to the final

Pakistan had beaten Bangladesh by six wickets in the semi-final on 1 October, reaching 112 for four in 11.3 overs against Bangladesh’s 111 for seven in a shortened 13-over contest.

What the chase required: our score-based analysis

India’s 211 meant Pakistan needed 212 to win. Across 120 legal balls, that was an initial requirement of 10.60 runs per over. Pakistan’s 192 in 20 overs translates to 9.60 per over: a productive innings, but below the pace required for this target.

The distinction between the result margin and the target shortfall matters. The official winning margin was 19 runs, the difference between 211 and 192. Pakistan needed 20 more runs from its finishing total to reach the winning target of 212. Those statements describe different comparisons and are consistent.

Hasan’s 96 from 51 balls gives a strike rate of approximately 188.24. That calculation explains the pace of his individual contribution; it does not tell us which overs decided the match. Without a ball-by-ball reconstruction, blaming one dismissal or one bowling spell would go beyond the evidence presented here.

How to assess the silver medal

A final defeat and a medal-winning tournament are both parts of this result. The semi-final win explains how Pakistan reached the decider, while the final exposes the difficulty of completing a high-scoring chase. Evaluate the tournament run separately from the final’s outcome rather than treating either as a complete verdict on every player.
