Pakistan name Farhan T20I captain ahead of Sri Lanka series

PCB has confirmed the T20I leadership change ahead of the October home series.

What is confirmed

PCB’s 5 October announcement names Sahibzada Farhan as Pakistan’s T20I captain for the Sri Lanka series. Shaheen Shah Afridi remains ODI captain for the following tri-series with England and Sri Lanka.

What comes next

The three T20Is are scheduled for 9, 11 and 13 October in Rawalpindi. Use the match centre for the complete home-season fixture list.

Our editorial view

The opening match will offer a first look at Pakistan’s approach under the announced leadership. Selection and tactics should be assessed from the confirmed playing XI and match evidence, rather than speculation.

Squad selection does not guarantee a place in the playing XI. We have not confirmed start times or broadcast availability here.

Captaincy, squads and the playing XI are different

A captaincy announcement identifies who is appointed to lead a particular side. A squad announcement identifies the pool selected for a series. The playing XI is the group named for an individual match. Reading these as three separate decisions prevents a common mistake: presenting a squad member as a confirmed starter before the team sheet appears.

The format also matters. This announcement refers to T20I leadership for the Sri Lanka series and ODI leadership for the following tri-series. A change in one format does not establish a change in the other. Check the competition name when sharing a headline without its full article.

How we would assess the leadership on the field

Useful questions include when bowlers are changed, how fields respond to a batter’s scoring areas and how the team handles pressure after wickets. These are viewing prompts, not predictions about Farhan’s choices. A captain cannot be assessed fairly from the result alone: execution, available players and conditions also affect what happens.

This article records the announcement as published. Since the scheduled series dates have arrived, use our match centre for dated updates and the official board for final team sheets. The original squad notice remains useful background but is not a live team-selection feed.
